“It’s—” Kojiro begins, and swallows around, getting late, as Kaoru’s foot presses down harder, just enough to get him to spread his legs a little.

“Kojiro,” Kaoru says, sounding unfairly composed. “Are you actually waiting for an invitation to spend the night?”

“I…” Kojiro wraps his fingers around Kaoru’s ankle but doesn’t move it away. “It’s been a while. I wasn’t sure if we still did that.”

Kaoru raises an eyebrow at him, unimpressed. “I’ve had my toes resting against your inseam for at least half an hour.”

Kaoru was also the one who, a month before Kojiro was due to fly out to Italy, said, I don’t think I want to do long-distance. Three years later, and Kojiro’s been back in Okinawa for two and a half months. He wasn’t sure how to broach the subject with Kaoru and ask if this was back on the table. Clearly, he shouldn’t have worried.
