plain text version of the little ficlet I just posted to twitter.
"Sorry I took so long," Kojiro says, holding onto the tray as he nudges his room door open with a foot. "My parents insisted on tea because it's raining. You don't have to drink if you don't want—"
He stops short in the doorway of his room. In the few minutes Kojiro was downstairs getting their snacks ready, Kaoru has clearly raided his closet and found his softest sweater. Kojiro's been filling out over the past few months and his shoulders are broad. His sweater is big on Kaoru, slipping over a shoulder. Kaoru's damp hair curls against the wool. Kojiro wonders if his sweater's going to smell like Kaoru now, and how long it will last.
"That's mine." He doesn't know what else to say.
Kaoru smirks at him, resting his elbows on Kojiro's low table and cupping his chin in his hands. The sweater sleeves are too long on him. He has sweater paws. Kojiro is glad his hands are full right now because it's the only thing stopping him from taking a picture with the shitty camera on his flip phone.
"You have more sweaters than I've ever seen you wear," Kaoru tells him, arching an eyebrow. It does things to Kojiro's heart, just thinking about Kaoru paying attention to what he wears. "Besides, you're always hot. You run hot. Your body temperature. Is high."
Kojiro grins, setting the tray down in the middle of the table. "Tell me again how hot you think I am."
"Yeah right." Kaoru whacks him with the excess sweater sleeve flopping over his hand. "Like you need anyone else to tell you. Anyway, how do you feel about our upcoming history test?"
They settle in to study. It's nowhere near as fun as skating together but on rainy days like these, Kojiro will take any excuse he can get to hang out with Kaoru anyway. It's a little difficult to pay attention to his books, when Kaoru is sitting across the table from him, cupping his mug of tea between his sweater paws as he sips from it.
"What?" Kaoru asks, catching him looking.
"Nothing." Kojiro drops his gaze back to his book. He's trying so hard to pay attention to the words on the page that he doesn't even notice as Kaoru shuffles around the table, until he leans against Kojiro's side. "Kaoru?"
"You run hot," Kaoru says again, looking down at the mug of tea he's still holding. His ears are pink.
"I knew it," Kojiro sighs. "You're only after my body."
Kaoru looks up at him then. "You mean there's more to you than the six pack you're trying so hard to get?"
"Wouldn't you like to know," Kojiro murmurs. He can't deal with how Kaoru is looking at him, and how close he is. He can't resist the urge to stroke his fingers through Kaoru's hair. "Y'know, your hair's still wet from the rain. You should take it down so we can dry it properly."
Kaoru's eyes flutter shut. He puts his tea down on the table, and when he opens his eyes again, he holds Kojiro's gaze as he leans into the touch. "Mhmm."
"I," Kojiro begins, taking a deep breath. Kaoru stays right where he is. "Kaoru, I'm gonna kiss you."
Kaoru's lips curve into a smile, and he leans a little closer. "Mhmm."
His lips are warm when they kiss. The rest of him is cold in contrast, as he leans further into Kojiro, climbing into his lap.
"Warm me up a little more," Kaoru murmurs against Kojiro's mouth.
"Yeah," Kojiro breathes. His hand slides up under the sweater Kaoru is wearing. "I can do that."
